Seductive Surrogate
Seductive Surrogate is a grouping of handcrafted easels with the backsides
facing forward, intended to emphasize the easels’ craftsmanship.  The source of
wood used in the construction is from a collection of discarded objects such as a
futon frame, railroad ties, and shipping pallets that I saved.  As I produced each
individual piece, I focused on traditional woodworking techniques, such as hand
joinery.  Each easel holds a surrogate panel that play off of contemporary
painting, which rounds out the sculptures and makes reference to the easels’
assumed function.
